Thinking about becoming a model but need more insight into what it takes to become one?
Here’s all you need to know in our must-read guide…
Do you love walking through malls like you’re strutting down a Milan runway? Or have you found yourself walking past every fashion house billboard imagining yourself as the face of their campaign? If you answered yes, then modelling may be calling out to you.
The world of modelling is full of generously open opportunities. It’s not restrictive as it might’ve once been, only calling out for tall, super thin and flawless-looking people. That’s all changed now. There are many niches and categories – which you can explore on our site. Everyone will be able to find themselves at least one area that fits their look perfectly so there’s a lot that this profession can offer prospective models.
Modelling is interesting and fun, but it’s also known for being competitive, so a strong sense of character and drive are great attributes to have. There are some other characteristics you might already have or certainly can develop, as life is all about learning and progressing. These could include:
• Oozing self-confidence
Having confidence in yourself and self-esteem are good features to have regardless of whether you’re looking to become a model or not. Believing in yourself and having a positive outlook on life is an excellent way to start anything off. If you’re comfortable in your own skin and within yourself, this will translate externally and on camera (which photographers, casting directors, clients and consumers will love!). So, go ahead and give yourself TLC with positive affirmations and thoughts. Do the things you enjoy the most in life and surround yourself with people who make you feel good and give you positive energy.
• Determination (even in the face of rejection)
Hey, we know it happens. Rejection isn’t something we enjoy feeling but sometimes it comes with the package of not only being a model but life in general. That doesn’t mean to say it’s any less disheartening, but we say chin up, stay focused and remain determined should any rejections happen along the way. It’s easy to say, “try not to take it personally” …so we won’t!
One door closes and another opens. Modelling offers a plethora of wonderful opportunities whilst building strong networking links. You never know who you may bump into on a photoshoot or a set, and remember if one client doesn’t require your look, another will.
• Develop and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle
Be the best you can be and take care of yourself inside and out through healthy lifestyle changes and a clean diet so that this radiates through your skin and hair through to your physique. Maintaining this will not only be good for your health but also your career as a model so begin a regime to help you get closer to becoming a model.
